On a more pleasant note …

I can’t leave it at that last post! Well, here’s the skinny on what went down for me this weekend.

Overall, things were pretty low key. Friday after work, I met Dave Uptown and we had dinner at the Fox & Hound. The city of Charlotte was completely consumed by ACC Tournament fever!

We were going to try and eat at Dixie’s Tavern, where Packer, et al, were broadcasting, but, the presence of Packman and the proximity of Dixie’s to the Arena made it quite the happening spot.

Fox & Hound was a solid fallback, though!

Dave had to leave to cover the evening ACC sessions, so I headed home.

Saturday was spent overdosing on hoops action and hunkering down in the face of some really crummy weather. Today was spent also watching the ACC finals, and then heading over to softball practice, which, turned out to be a bit of a bust, considering that a lot of our team was obviously concerned about the outcome of the game.

And, on that note …

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

I still feel a certain sense of pride that we still have more ACC Tournament Championships than clemson and we’ve been out of the ACC for 37 years.

Of course, maybe I shouldn’t laugh too much. After all, they are in the Big Dance, whereas we are keeping all of the cushions warm on the playoff couch, Cheez-um Pringles in hand!

–sigh–

Also in the –sigh– category was baseball this weekend. Meh, Vandy’s a good team, and it was at their place, but, still losing the first SEC series of the year stings a bit.

But hey, spring football is right around the corner! Hope springs eternal!

Which, brings me to … this.

It’s a good story on the chosen one, but, there was one detail revealed about Mr. Garcia — he has a KID.

Now, there are several things that bother me, aside from well, the obvious problems and complications that stem from having a kid back home in Florida:

  1. The kid’s name is “Memphys.”
  2. Why “Memphys”? It’s a character from … wait on it … Happy. Feet.
  3. But, there’s more, the character in “Happy Feet”? Actually, the character’s name is “Memphis,” but I guess they felt the need to spice up such a boring name with the uber-trendy “y” instead of “i.”

I really really really really really really really hope that Mr. Garcia has managed to get his head screwed on straight. He hopefully has four years of battles to go through, and we need him to be mentally tough both on and (especially) off the field.

But, sometimes, an event like having a kid makes one walk on the straight and narrow. Let’s hope that, as the article suggests, homes is ready to suit up, play some football, and save his wild side for on the field, where maybe that might best serve him.
