Work and non-work collide

Today was a fine day in the work world … I got to produce something that (1) really interests me and (2) I can actually say something about (in other words, present an informed opinion).

OMG! TXT! Vol. 1

Because the best illustrations in life are seen in those in-between moments, I’m debuting a new feature — OMG! TXT! — which will be funny snippets taken from text messages, IM conversations, e-mails, etc.
So with that in mind ….

The Constant

As pumped up as I am thinking about this weekend’s game, I can’t help but remember what all went on this time last year and the whole weird/funny/inexplicable/stressful/wouldn’t-trade-it-for-anything relationship I have with Gamecock football.

I’m just saying

If it had been the Gamecocks involved in the 25-inning game o’ doom, you can bet the farm that Ron Morris would have had a scathing column ready to go about how Ray Tanner is RUINING HIS PITCHER’S ARM …

In the Longest game in NCAA history, Wood pitched 13 innings, including 12 1-3 of no hit ball, before the Longhorns pulled out a 3-2 win in a 25-inning epic.

Wood threw 169 pitches, struck out 14 and gave up two hits. All of that after pitching two innings in a 3-1 win over Army the night before to earn his 15th save of the season.

I wouldn’t mind the stupid diatribes from Teh St4te if they were, you know, consistent.

Oh, and, by the way …

I believe:

After OMG! THIS! and last night’s non-letdown game, the excitement for Gamecock hoops is really starting to come back to the fan base in general.

I obviously have applauded the Darrin Horn hire from minute one … he had me at his introductory press conference! But, admittedly, there was a certain “wait and see” aspect for the team, given the relatively weak non-conference slate, but man, this team is FUN to watch.

They play exciting basketball, they give effort and heart, and even in defeat, they do all they can. If we can keep him around, there’s no doubt in my mind that Horn will do great things in Columbia, and potentially be that “iconic coach” that leads us to good things for years to come!

So, yes, I believe.

Grrr

Two quick thoughts on this:

1. Stay classy, tiger fans.

2. In some very deep part of my soul, I hope they leave it up, so our players can get a long, hard look at it, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll be motivated to take out the trash in our house next November.

I’m #1(00) … YES!

Wow, looks like my last post was popular! I wish I could say that it’s totally random or that the Google overlords decided to bless me, but, I know how it happened.
